In Jerusalem, by the
Sheep's Gate, there is a fish-pond that is called in Hebrew
Bethesda. It has five arches. There lied many sick, blind, crippled
and paralytic people. They waited for water to flow. The Angel of
God, naimly, would come dowm from time to time into the pond and let
water flow. The one who entered first after the water started
flowing, would be healed, no matter the illness he had. There was a
man who had been ill for 38 years. When Jesus saw him lieing and
when He found out that he had been in that condition for a long
time, He told him: Do you want to get healed? My Lord, answered the
ill man, I do not have anyone to put me in the pond when the water
starts flowing, and when I come close, the others go in before me.
Get up, take your bed and walk! - said Jesus to this man.
Immediately the man was healed. He took his bed and started walking.
(Jn 5, 2-9)
In a dark room who
knows for how many times, Marija was thinking about God's word.
Tears filled her throat, she was sobbing loudly, with her face
dipped into the dear Book, from where she just got some light and
comfort.
In her thoughts she
went back to the past, to the memories that were still bleeding from
her broken heart. She returned to the Christmas of 95, to holiday's
table where she was with her father, mother and brother. As soon as
the prayer stopped and they started eating, father collapsed,
silently put his head on the table and died.
After 65 years of
living and 20 years of being ill, his earthly battle finished. He
was paralyzed and could not move by himself. In this fierce battle
with the Lord, full of rage, dispair, anxiety ... Today the One who
was born as a child called him, not so he could be affraid, but in
order to love him.
She came back to the
words that filled her insides, her brain, all her heart and filled
the whole room. They came to take away suffering, sorrow, guilt,
rage that never heard father's cry: I need a man!
Marija was lieing paralyzed, squeezed by her lack of faith, guilt,
compassion ...
Get up and walk! -
she heard the voice. She got up and from a healed heart came the
prayer: Lord, here you have my hands, take them to lift my mother,
my brother. Here you have my moth, encourage and comfort them. Here
you have my eyes. Look at all brothers and sisters in my vicinity
who lie paralyzed waiting for you to heal them! |
