Holy Father’s social encyclical to be released
July 7

Vatican City, 1st July 2009 (CNA) - The
Vatican has announced that Pope Benedict’s third encyclical, “Caritas in
veritate” (Charity in Truth) will be presented on Tuesday, July 7 at 11:30
a.m. local time.
Last Sunday, following the recitation of the Angelus, the Holy Father
revealed that the publication of his latest encyclical “is imminent” and
noted that the document delves “more deeply into certain aspects of the
integral development of our age, in the light of charity and of truth.”

Cardinal Rivera makes energetic call to defend
life and women in Mexico

Mexico City, Mexico, 1st July 2009 (CNA) -
During his homily on the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, Cardinal Norberto
Rivera Carrera of Mexico City called for the defense of life from conception
to natural death and for support for women, as the country prepares for
local and national elections on July 5.

Holy Father explains mission and meaning of
priestly ministry

Vatican City, 1st July 2009 (CNA) - At the
general audience in St. Peter’s Square this morning, Pope Benedict XVI spoke
of the Year for Priests, laying out the essentials of the priestly mission
and identity. He also prayed that this Year will be “an opportunity for the
inner renewal of all priests and, consequently, for the revitalization of
their commitment to the mission."

Italian cardinal says true society must originate
in the family

Rome, Italy, 30th June 2009 (CNA) - The
president of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, said
last week that a culture and society that is faithful to the Gospel “must

Most Spaniards still marry, but divorce on the
rise

Madrid, Spain, 29th June 2009 (CNA) - The Vice
President of the Institute for Family Policy, Mariano Martinez-Aedo, said
marriage continues to be the civil state of the majority of Spaniards, but
that fast-track divorce and low wages have caused the percentage of
marriages drop from 62.3% to 57% during the last 20 years.
