Vatican City, 11th May 2008 (CNA) - This morning Pope Benedict XVI
celebrated the Mass of Pentecost at St. Peter’s Basilica. In his homily, the
Holy Father spoke about the ”harmony of gifts” of the Holy Spirit, and
emphasized the responsibility of the Church to become an instrument of
peace, a theme Pope Benedict has recited often in recent days.

Pope congratulates Israel on statehood, insists on
the rights of Christians |

Vatican City, 12th May 2008 (CNA) - Today the new ambassador from Israel to
the Holy See presented his letters of credence to Pope Benedict. After
congratulating Israel on its 60 years of statehood, the Pope surveyed the
difficulties faced by Christians in the region and called for the Israelis
to work for a peaceful resolution to the conflict with the Palestinians.

members of an international conference marking the 40th anniversary of the
promulgation of “Humanae Vitae.” The Holy Father told the participants that
new technological developments cannot replace the quality of marital love or
the sacredness of life.

Western power, saying on Arabic-language television that Islam will
conquer Rome. He went on to say that Spain is an Islamic land that
should be retaken and that America has begun to realize its “end is

Vatican City, 8th May 2008 (CNA) - Pope Benedict received a large
delegation of Melkite Greek Catholics this morning at the Vatican. The
Pontiff called on the clergy to refrain from becoming involved in
politics and exhorted the local Church to open the path to peace by
proposing the light of the Gospel.

Nineth
Veritas Contest is organized from 1st
March 2008 to 30th November 2008
This Year's
Contest is organized in three categories:
A: Contest
for the short story inspired by the Christian
living
B: Contest
for the best photography - Theme: Church
and Monastery Interiors
C: Contest
for the best drawing - Themes: The Saints
of the Catholic Church

The authors
who send short stories can send two
unpublished stories each. Accepted are the
stories up to 7500 words, written in Croatian, English,
Italian, or Spanish,
sent in Word (.doc) or RTF (.rtf) format to the
e-mail address
until 30th November 2008.
The authors
sending photographs and drawings can send
two unpublished photos / drawings
each in JPG (.jpg) format) to the
e-mail address
until 30th November 2008.
Each author
has to send his / her name and address.
The accepted
works will be published immediatelly in the Veritas Arts
section.

The results
of the Contest will be published
on the Veritas site on 20th December 2008.
The reward to
the authors of the best story, photograph
and drawing
will be - A BOOK.

The authors
agree that their works are published on the
Veritas pages, as well as in other
Veritas publications.
